Overview

Based on the shore of Fairhaven Lake at Lytham St Annes is the RSPB's Ribble Discovery Centre. This is open from 10am to 5pm and admission is free. It is a small educational centre providing information on bird and other wildlife activity in the Ribble Estuary and the Fylde Peninsula. This includes a detailed and up to date record of recent sightings in and around the local area.

Fairhaven Lake is a saltwater lake 1200m long and 400m wide with two small islands towards its northern end. The lake is edged with mudflats and marsh. Pay and display parking is available on the seaward side and free parking on the side roads on the landward side.

Access

From Preston or Blackpool follow the A584 to Lytham St Annes. Fairhaven Lake is immediately adjacent to this road.

Birds

A variety of rarities such as Slavonian Grebe, Grey Phalarope , Shorelark have turned up here the most recent at the time of writing being a Shag in October 2009.
