Overview

Moore Nature Reserve is a 200 acre site of woodlands, meadows, wetland and lakes near Warrington and Runcorn. It covers an area of land between the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey. There are 5 large lakes , 8 hides and a feeding station. It is open 365 days a year , until 5pm in winter , entry is free, and recently a carpark has been built ( again no charge ) which holds 20 cars.

To the west of the reserve there is also Upper Moss Side , a Forestry Commision site of farmland, meadows and woodland. This also has a hide overlooking reed beds on the River Mersey.

Access

From the north follow the A56 south from Warrington. From the south join the A56 at junction 11 of the M56. Turn off the A56 at the Walton Arms pub and head towards Moore village. From Moore village turn right into Moore Lane and continue over the swingbridge until your arrive at the reserve.

Birds

Great and Lesser Spotted and Green Woodpecker together with Willow Tit and Treecreeper can be located in the woodland. Long eared , Short eared and Tawny Owls are also present. Bitterns have over wintered in the reedbeds to the east. Black Necked Grebes have bred and can be seen on the lakes. Moore NR also has a good reputation for gulls including rarities such as Glacous and Iceland.
