Overview

Siding Lane Local Nature Reserve is on the site of the old Rainford Colliery. It encompasses 7 hectares of mixed woodland and rough grassland. There is also a small pond. To the east of the reserve is the A570 Rainford bypass. To the west is the Coach Road. The Coach road runs from Barrow Nook , Bickerstaffe south to the East Lancashire Road near Kirkby. It is a private road with public footpath access along its length.

Access

Sidings Lane LNR is clearly signposted from the Rainford bypass. The Coach Road can be accessed at either end.


Birds

The fields surrounding the Coach Road retain populations of Skylark, Yellowhammer, Corn Bunting and Grey Partridge at appropriate times of the year.

Siding Lane LNR supports Goldfinch, Long Tailed Tit, Goldcrest and Linnet. Buzzards and even Marsh Harrier can be seen in the vicinity .
